Using Teams and Canvas for a Better Learning Experience IT Training Lab 104 Register

This training session will focus on Microsoft’s collaboration software Microsoft Teams. The session will cover basic navigation of the software, creating new teams, how to post and add tabs within a team, how to add channels, and more. Professors, be sure to stick around after the basic training to learn how to use teams with your Canvas workflows. The instructors will go over how you can host office hours, preform on line lectures, and more.

Video conferencing can involve complicated equipment, special rooms and may only work on business networks. WebEx is web browser based video conferencing that works anywhere you can get to the internet. In this session, we will look at advantages and disadvantages of WebEx conferencing and provide demonstrations.

This training will involve an overview of Human Resources policies and procedures that supervisors and/or departmental support staff will need to know in order to properly administer personnel actions; i.e. leave management, staff evaluations, personnel changes, and disciplinary processes.

ADA Accommodations and Technology University Park IT Annex, Room 103

ADA Technology: An overview of the disability accessibility technology you might encounter at Troy University. This session will discuss the technology commonly used by Troy University teachers and students such as screen readers, transcripts/captions, and web page viewers. Focus will be on how instructors can best make their class accessible to those students requiring these programs, and how the students may use a disability accommodation with these technological aids.



Recruit Communication Processes University Park IT Annex, Room 107

A brief overview of Recruit Communication plans will be presented with a demonstration of how templates and plans are created. The presenters will also provide information on how automated workflows work and the potential for these workflows to be moved to a communication plan platform. The presenters will also give an update on future communication processes.

The primary focus of this session is to describe the various Web services that are provided by the university. During this session, attendees will be given a brief tour of current and upcoming resources and will receive an explanation of the purpose for each service. This session will also explain the difference between informational services (sites such as the Trojan Website) and interactive services (such as Trojan Web Express and Canvas).



Microsoft OneDrive: Never Lose Data Again IT Training Lab 104 Register

What is OneDrive? How can it help you to never lose your data again? This session will describe how to set up your OneDrive and the best way to utilize it.

People Admin University Park IT Annex, Room 107

Human Resources implemented an electronic position management and applicant tracking system in January of 2011. The People Admin Employment System allows Troy supervisors to manage positions, review applications, and fill vacancies online. Further, the employment system streamlines the entire application process online for our employment candidates.



Office 2019, What's New? IT Training Lab 104 Register

Office 2019 is Microsoft latest release of standalone products, and with this comes many added features. Such as:

  • Being able to translate entire documents in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Math entry has been made easier than ever with native support for equations
  • Morph and Zoom to add more engaging animations to PowerPoint.
  • With the help of a active pen you can now use it as a presentation clicker
  • A full suite of inking tools have been added to each product to allow for natural editing in Word, drawing on slides from a presentation in PowerPoint, and the ability to use your pen as a cursor in Excel

The 2019 IT Summit will be held in the University Park IT Annex at University Park. This technological building is a joint venture between Troy University and the City of Troy.

Any full-time staff or faculty member of Troy University.


Who We Are

IT manages a number of systems at Troy University, including, but not limited to, the central computing facility, network infrastructure, helpdesk, data security, document imaging, web services, electronic communications and enterprise-level systems and instructional tools. The Helpdesk operated by the Information Technology department assists the university community with various computer difficulties.

Parking will be available at the University Park IT Annex. There is also limited parking available at University Park. Flags will be posted at the entrance to the parking facility, positioned on the north (rear) side of the complex. IT staff will assist with onsite directions to the conference center. Yes. There is no fee for the conference.

No. Many sessions are offered at multiple times. Build your schedule based on your training interests and availability.

Yes. Proper registration of all participants will allow us to align resources accordingly.

No. Review the schedule at the IT Summit website. Many departments are participating, offering an opportunity for numerous training activities – the event is not IT-specific.
